Angelina Topić arrived at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham with high expectations, but in the end, the result leaves a bitter taste. Serbia’s high jumper was eliminated early in the final and finished 12th at the continental championship.
Although she came through the qualifying round comfortably, clearing the qualifying mark of 1.91 meters with ease on her first attempt, the final unfolded very differently.
It was not only Angelina who struggled, as several renowned high jumpers also had difficulty clearing 1.83 meters. The Serbian athlete managed to do so on her second attempt, but the next height proved to be the end of her competition.

Topić reached 1.88 meters, but after three consecutive failed attempts, her competition came to an end, despite being considered one of the favorites for the championship. Her brief appearance was enough only for 12th place in Europe, well below the standard to which the Serbian athlete has accustomed her supporters.
Of course, it should be noted that Angelina was disrupted during two of her attempts because the 10,000-meter race was taking place at the same time. However, it should also be emphasized that the other competitors faced the same distractions and still continued in the competition.
It is worth recalling that Topić is coming off an outstanding indoor season, during which she won a silver medal at the World Indoor Championships and cleared the two-meter mark for the first time in her career. She will next compete at the World Championships in Budapest in mid-September.
