Yesterday, America celebrated one of its most significant holidays, Thanksgiving. Serbian community in Chicago and other American cities also joined in the festivities, as captured in our exclusive video report.
The holiday traces its roots back to 1621 when English settlers and local Native Americans shared a harvest feast. However, the relationship between the settlers and Native Americans eventually deteriorated, leading to violent conflicts.
While this darker aspect of history often remains in the shadows, Thanksgiving is now primarily celebrated as a family holiday filled with gratitude and togetherness.
Though not celebrating with the same enthusiasm as Americans, Serbs in Chicago use this opportunity to gather with friends and family. Our editor, Antonije Kovačević, demonstrated how he prepared a traditional turkey with a special Serbian twist.
In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November. Many Americans extend the holiday weekend to make the most of it.
