Serbian citizen D. T., who is also a sports ambassador of Serbia in the UAE and a multiple boxing champion who ventured into entrepreneurship after his sports career, has been in one of the cells of Zagreb’s Remetinec prison since last night.
Zagreb police have charged him with the criminal offenses of raping his intimate partner, domestic violence and unlawful collection of a debt. At the proposal of the State Attorney’s Office (DORH), the duty investigating judge ordered his detention so that he could not influence witnesses, but also because of the risk of repeating the offense and fleeing, even though he also holds Croatian citizenship.
According to information obtained by Jutarnji.hr, after the criminal investigation was completed, he was taken before the detention supervisor with a criminal complaint. At the Zagreb Police Department’s Detention and Transfer Unit, where he was temporarily held until his scheduled questioning by prosecutors, he successfully drew attention to himself on several occasions, prompting police officers to call an ambulance for him multiple times.
He complained of a number of health problems, mentioning epilepsy, tumors and other conditions, but was ultimately taken the following morning for questioning at the premises of the competent Municipal State Attorney’s Office. As could be observed, the former boxer was escorted by two members of the intervention police along with one police officer, apparently drawing on the experience from Velika Gorica, where a man suspected of domestic violence, Ž. B., escaped from a police officer last week and remained at large for as long as 30 hours, causing concern among citizens until he was arrested in Jarun.
Jutarnji further reports that, according to the allegations in the criminal complaint, his former partner reported him for allegedly raping her in the apartment in Zagreb where they lived. Before that, he allegedly put some kind of chain around her neck and dragged her to the apartment.
After she decided to flee from him to Serbia, he allegedly sent her threatening messages: “You will not leave Serbia alive. My godfather will come for you there if you don’t return my money.” He claims that she owed him 1,080 euros, an amount that the frightened woman subsequently transferred to his account. She, however, claims that he had previously transferred 100 euros to her.
He categorically denies all allegations of psychological and physical abuse, while regarding the final accusation, that of unlawful debt collection, he maintains that it was simply a loan that she failed to repay. When the victim returned to Croatia on August 22, she decided to report him to the police immediately.
He described himself as a law student and owner of his own company, saying that he moved to Croatia because of love and expanded his business operations to Zagreb and the Adriatic coast. He told investigators that he earns between 10,000 and 15,000 euros per month and also felt the need to mention his roles as an appointed ambassador. In the end, he expressed a wish for the Serbian Consulate to be informed of his arrest.
