Renowned Israeli historian Gideon Greif is coming to America! The world’s leading expert on the Auschwitz concentration camp, as well as a scholar who has spent years researching Ustaša crimes in the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) and authored the book Jasenovac: Auschwitz of the Balkans, will be giving several lectures throughout March.
Greif will present a lecture titled “The Truth About Jasenovac”, organized by Serbian Times and the Serb Association of Texas, under the patronage of the Serbian American PAC. His tour will begin on March 14 at St. Sava Church in Milwaukee, followed by a lecture on March 15 at St. Nicholas Church in the Chicago suburb of Lyons. On March 16, he will speak at the hall of Holy Resurrection Church on Redwood Drive in Chicago. The following weekend, he will hold lectures in Houston on March 21 and 22 (Friday: 12 PM at the Holocaust Museum Houston; Saturday: 6 PM at the Westchase Hotel).
“In recent years, several historical studies have emerged presenting significantly lower estimates of Serbian, Jewish, and Roma victims in Jasenovac and other execution sites in the NDH. These revisionist theories are the reason why, in my lectures, I will once again prove that my previous research is accurate and well-founded. I invite everyone who has the opportunity to attend these lectures. After each session, we will have time for discussion and questions,” said Professor Gideon Greif.

Professor Gideon Greif is currently the chief historian and researcher at the Shem Olam Institute for Faith, Holocaust Education, Documentation, and Research in Israel. He is also the chief historian and researcher at the Holocaust Education Projects Foundation in Miami, Florida, and a senior researcher and historian at the Ono Academic College in Israel.
Greif is recognized as one of the world’s foremost experts on the history of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration and extermination camp. His most famous contribution to the history of Auschwitz is his pioneering, groundbreaking research We Wept Without Tears, which documents the history of the Sonderkommando, the special Jewish prisoner unit forced to work at mass execution sites in Auschwitz-Birkenau.

GREAT INTEREST IN GREIF’S BOOKS: Featured at the Belgrade Book Fair
This research, first published by Yad Vashem, became an international bestseller. The book has been translated into 14 languages, including Chinese and Serbian.
We Wept Without Tears inspired the Hungarian film Son of Saul, which won an Academy Award in 2016. Gideon Greif served as a historical consultant for the film.
Together with Itamar Levin, Greif co-authored the book Uprising in Auschwitz, the first book in the world dedicated exclusively to the Jewish Sonderkommando uprising in Auschwitz on October 7, 1944.
Professor Greif recently published the book Jasenovac: Auschwitz of the Balkans, which won first prize at the Belgrade International Book Fair in November 2018.
This book is part of a trilogy dedicated to the Ustaša regime’s crimes against Serbian and Jewish people during World War II. The trilogy comprises over 2,500 pages.
Professor Greif has received five of the highest state decorations from the Republic of Serbia.
