Six young men who came from Montenegro to the Monastery of the Holy Archangels near Prizren in Kosovo and Metohija on the occasion of the traditional Children’s Folklore Festival were detained after they unfurled the flag of Serbia. Following the issued penalties, they were released.
The incident occurred during the holding of the traditional folklore festival “Towards Vidovdan” in the complex of the Monastery of the Holy Archangels near Prizren, which this year gathered around 1,000 participants and visitors.
Six young men, who came from Montenegro to the Monastery of the Holy Archangels near Prizren in Kosovo and Metohija on the occasion of the traditional Children’s Folklore Festival, were detained by the so-called Kosovo police because they unfurled the flag of Serbia, Tanjug learns.
They were released after misdemeanor charges were filed against them, Kosovo Online reports.
The Radio Goraždevac team was at the scene at the moment of the police intervention. According to them, the police officers present objected to the filming, but the recorded material was not deleted, and the detention was captured on camera.
Despite the incident in front of the monastery gate, the event continued according to the planned program.
The folklore festival “Towards Vidovdan” traditionally marks the beginning of the Vidovdan festivities and is one of the more significant events for the preservation of the intangible cultural heritage of Kosovo and Metohija.
For a quarter of a century, the event has been gathering cultural and artistic societies with the aim of preserving Serbian tradition, song, and dance. This year also marks ten years of it being held in the complex of the Monastery of the Holy Archangels.
Among the participants are members of the Cultural and Artistic Society “Metohija” from Goraždevac, who, together with other ensembles, represent the wealth of folk tradition.
