Water Polo Club Crvena zvezda is on the verge of shutting down! The situation in the Red and White camp is extremely alarming, just a few days after the official end of the season in this sport. Although they managed to achieve a decent result in the pool, winning fourth place and securing a spot in European competitions, the water polo players of Crvena zvezda cannot hope for a bright future in the club.

The trend of departures from the club started back during the season, when Crvena zvezda distributed release papers one after another to everyone who wanted to find a place elsewhere. When the season ended, even the most persistent decided to swim away – it seems that goalkeeper Vladimir Mišović will go to Novi Beograd, and that Šabac will take Danković and Gajić. The club will soon be left by captain Marković, followed by Radović and Radanović. This would mean that Crvena zvezda is left with insufficient players to start the season.

When keeping in mind that the youth categories of Crvena zvezda cannot “fill” the space in the senior team – which now practically does not even exist – and that all players are owed money for the previous season, it is clear that the alarms are on. Allegedly, Crvena zvezda has debts to players that are even older than a year, and when they will come due for payment…

It was also turbulent during the season that will not be remembered fondly at Crvena zvezda. “Before the start of the season, Vuk Milojević went to Novi Beograd, and then three more water polo players from Crvena zvezda followed the same path – Dušan Vasić, Kristijan Šulc, and Stefan Pješivac. Thus, the Red and White camp was significantly weakened, and that was just an announcement of everything that would happen in the winter months. Crvena zvezda will thank Vuk Vitorović and Aleksandar Marković for their cooperation because they did not respect club discipline for more than a month, Nikola Nikolov decided to take a break, and Matija Vlahović to continue his career in Belgrade. Marko Petković reached an agreement with Primorac from Kotor, while Veljko Tankosić will reinforce Italian Ortigia,” we wrote a few months ago, at the end of 2025.

When adding to that that the general secretary of the club, Goran Jezdić, resigned and informed the sports society about it, it is clear that there is no one in Crvena zvezda to even remedy the accumulated problems. Frequent changes in management positions in the previous period created many problems for the Red and Whites, so it seems that from this point there are only two paths.

One is the most unpopular one – shutting down the senior team and withdrawing from all competitions in which Crvena zvezda was supposed to appear. This would also mean a greater focus on the youth categories, and then a return to the big stage, in due time, when the conditions for that are met. The second is for Crvena zvezda to enter the next season as a branch of one of the more stable Serbian clubs. This way, the Red and Whites would get the player roster for the competition, and it would be up to them only to handle the other details.
