President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky spoke about his country’s relations with Iran, mentioning a series of difficult events and accusing Tehran of direct complicity in the war on Russia’s side.
“We have gone through difficult relations with Iran. We did nothing to them. They shot down our plane, killed our passengers and crew. People died. They did not admit it and did not allow experts to enter,” said Zelensky.
He recalled the downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, when in January 2020, a Ukrainian passenger plane was shot down over Tehran, killing all 176 people on board.
Zelensky pointed out that relations further deteriorated after the start of the war in Ukraine.
“After the start of the full-scale war, they gave the Russians ‘Shahed’ drones with which they killed our civilians,” said the Ukrainian president.
He added that he tried to stop such practice through diplomatic means.
“I wanted to stop it. I asked them. They promised there would not be more than one delivery of drones, but they continued to lie and deliver weapons,” said Zelensky.
In the end, he concluded that due to such behavior, he holds Iran responsible for the consequences of the war in Ukraine.
“That is why I consider them Russia’s accomplices,” Zelensky said.
