Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated today that, although he was not in favor of the removal of the commander of the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ) of the Serbian Ministry of Internal Affairs, Spasoje Vulević, it is a good thing that he will soon be retired, because “it’s enough to look at the reaction and see if there is any honor in him or not.”
While participating in the “Citizens Against Blockades” rally in the Belgrade neighborhood of Borča, he said that many parts of the state apparatus “do not have enough responsibility and seriousness to perform responsible jobs,” and that “they will always blame him” for all the bad things that happen.
Vučić said that this is not the first time he has been blamed for the removal of another police official, that “the time of responsibility is yet to come,” and that removals “are just coming, and there will be many of them.”
“Last week they complained about the head of the tax police, before that about the head of the prosecutor’s office, the prosecutor for organized crime, (police officials) in Senta and Sombor… They are all their people, which only speaks to the scale of the coup d’état, because it all originated from the state administration, only no one is thinking about that. They constantly say that there is a dictatorship (in Serbia), it seems we were right (with the removals), we just should have done it sooner,” said Vučić during his walk.
The commander of the SAJ, Vulević, confirmed today that he has been removed from his position as SAJ commander and that he is retiring at his own request.
He told the Beta agency that a new job systematization was adopted on Thursday and that he was informed on Friday that he was no longer counted on as commander because he was not under the control of Aleksandar Vučić.
