United States President Donald Trump said that, after the murder of the American patriot Charlie Kirk, “the radical leftist maniacs simply have to be beaten up.”
“We have to be brave in life. And we have a great country. We have radical leftist maniacs and we just have to beat them up,” Trump told reporters in front of the White House, answering a question about whether he had a message for conservatives who might feel like they are targets of radical groups, Politico reported.
He said he would call on his supporters to follow a non-violent path in response to the shooting.
“Kirk was a proponent of non-violence. I would like to see people react that way,” Trump stated.
Killer at large
Trump’s comments came after the 31-year-old Kirk was killed during a public appearance on a university campus in Orem, Utah. Authorities have not arrested the shooter, and the motive for Kirk’s murder remains unknown.
After the shooting, Trump recorded an address from the Oval Office and posted it on social media, where he praised Kirk and blamed the “radical left” for his death.
“We have a radical leftist group of maniacs. Just absolute maniacs. And we are going to solve that problem,” Trump said.
