Students in the blockade published a statement in which they state that after their colleague Nikolina publicly spoke out about police violence by Marko Kričak, intimate photos appeared on social media. “The distribution of these photos was initiated by Dijana Hrkalović, the former state secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs,” they state.
It is pointed out that “at the time the photos were taken, Nikolina was a minor,” N1 reports.
“The person to whom they were originally entrusted abused her trust and shared them further. This is a classic and terrible example of revenge pornography – the abuse of a woman’s intimacy to show power and control, five years after the trauma she already suffered,” they wrote in the post.
It is also pointed out that this is not the first time these photos have been shared. “Due to her activism against the regime, a colleague has already been retraumatized by the sharing of these same photos, with the aim of being intimidated. She did not give in then – nor will she now,” they stated.
The students in the blockade also wrote that this is “a continuation of the same chain of violence.”
“First they slapped her, beat her and threatened to rape her. Now they are using revenge pornography to attack her again,” they pointed out.
In the post, they said that “Nikolina has nothing to be ashamed of.” “The shame is on those who decided to use private pictures as a weapon,” they stated.
They also said that “Nikolina is not a symbol of their power – she is proof of their powerlessness.”
“Because they can’t shut her up, they are trying to break her. Because they didn’t succeed in intimidating her, they are trying to humiliate her. But they are not succeeding. Their violence says nothing about her, it says everything about them. The bullies have been exposed. The bullies are the ones who are without dignity,” they wrote.
