“Serbia, Kosovo, that’s solved. It was planned to happen (war, ed. note). Again, I say – that’s something where I used trade. In many cases, it’s like that, but it’s great for solving wars. That’s something that was very important,” U.S. President Donald Trump stated this evening, repeating this message for nearly a month now, reports KoSSev.

The American president said this at a White House press conference today, held with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, whom he calls his friend, KoSSev reports.

Trump’s Ultimatum to Russia and Trade as a Solution

Expressing “strong dissatisfaction” with Russia, Trump gave the Russian Federation a 50-day deadline: either a truce or new tariffs.

“We will impose very high tariffs if we don’t reach an agreement – about 100 percent,” Trump said. He explained that these are actually “secondary tariffs” targeting Russia’s remaining trade partners.

During a part of the conference, he listed the now-familiar list of “great” things he believes he is doing to prevent wars around the planet. One of these is the alleged new “war between Kosovo and Serbia that was on the verge of breaking out.” This “war” was listed alongside Gaza, Armenia, and Ukraine, all of which Trump claims to solve through “trade.”

Trump has repeatedly spoken in recent weeks about his administration’s alleged efforts to “prevent a war between Serbia and Kosovo.”

“Serbia and Kosovo were on the brink of conflict. They were heading towards a big war. I told them, if you conflict – no more trade with the USA. And they told me that maybe they won’t conflict after all,” he said in late June.

Trump later added: “We worked a lot. I don’t know if any president has done more than me. Serbia, Kosovo – they would have gone there, it would have been a big war. The same thing happened with India and Pakistan.”

Conflicting Statements on Recent Events

Kosovo President Osmani, during her visit to the USA this week, confirmed that, according to her information, Trump was allegedly referring to events from the past few weeks, not from previous years. “He is very clear that it’s not about 2023 or 2020, but about very, very recent developments,” Osmani stressed.

“Shame on you. You’re manipulating Donald Trump’s words,” Richard Grenell, the U.S. President’s Special Envoy for Special Missions, told Osmani immediately after her statement, following a similar message sent to her by Marko Đurić, the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs. Grenell alluded to the fact that nothing new had happened.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also rejected Osmani’s claims. “We did not raise a single soldier, did not start a single machine, nothing comes to mind, we want to work, to build,” Vučić said. He confirmed that he spoke on Sunday with the highest representatives of the State Department visiting Serbia, when Brendan Hanrahan, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, was in Belgrade.

Osmani’s office announced a press conference through Albanian media as soon as she returned to Pristina, but she immediately traveled to Lithuania without holding the conference.
