Russian forces are advancing in several eastern Ukrainian cities, moving closer to their goal—capturing the strategic city of Pokrovsk, reported Russian and Ukrainian bloggers.
“The enemy has advanced in Selidove,” wrote the DeepState group, closely linked to the Ukrainian army, late last night on the messaging app Telegram. They posted a map showing Russian forces in the southeastern part of the city.

The fall of Selidove would pave the way to Pokrovsk
Russian forces have been attacking the mining town of Selidove in the Donetsk region of Ukraine since last week. Its capture would open the path for Russian advancement towards the logistics hub of Pokrovsk, located 20 km northwest.
The Russian news outlet SHOT reported on Telegram that Moscow’s forces control 80 percent of Selidove.
“Russian flag raised in Hirnyk”
Denis Pushilin, the Russian-appointed head of the Donetsk region, stated that Russian forces raised a flag on the roof of one of the buildings in the city of Hirnyk, about 14 km south of Selidove, according to the Russian state news agency RIA.
Russian military bloggers also reported that Russian forces are close to capturing the city of Kurakhove, southwest of Hirnyk. Reuters could not independently verify the report. Ukraine did not comment on it.
Ukrainian army reports repelling attacks
Ukrainian armed forces reported in an evening update yesterday that they had repelled 36 Russian attacks along the front line in Pokrovsk, including the Selidove area, while several battles are still ongoing.
After failing to capture the capital Kyiv and achieve victory at the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, President Vladimir Putin scaled back his war ambitions to seizing the old industrial center in eastern Ukraine known as Donbas, which includes the Luhansk and Donetsk regions.
Last month, Russian forces advanced there at the fastest rate since the start of the war, according to available sources, despite Ukraine taking a portion of the Russian Kursk region.
