Russia’s Ambassador to Serbia, Aleksandar Bocan-Harchenko, assessed relations between Serbia and Russia as “generally positive,” but also said there were worrying things, mentioning the situation around Serbian ammunition that was reaching Ukraine.

“Belgrade has not joined the illegitimate measures of the European Union and has no intention of doing so. We continue our cooperation, which, however, is not proceeding at the same speed as before, because most of the countries surrounding Serbia are anti-Russian. In this sense, the sanctions create a logistical obstacle,” Harchenko said in an interview with the newspaper Politika, adding that, despite this, the two countries are working on an economic level.

He added that there were also worrying things and, as an example, stated that Belgrade supported several anti-Russian resolutions in international organizations. “There was also a situation around Serbian ammunition, which was reaching Ukrainian armed formations, which President Vučić, we hope, immediately resolved,” said Harchenko.

To the journalist’s statement that Serbia has a problem with “end users,” he retorted that “of course, it has a problem with them, but I think that President Vučić has finally come to a solution that prevents the possibility of fraud by so-called end users and the delivery of Serbian weapons to Ukraine.” “I’m not saying that Serbia was directly supplying weapons to Kyiv, nor do I have such a desire,” Harchenko emphasized.

People Sincerely Joined the Protests

“Regarding the colored revolution in Serbia, we use the assessments of the president and other officials, based on evidence and reliable data on current events,” said Harchenko.

He added that it is also clear that people joined the protests driven by their sincere emotions after the tragedy in Novi Sad in November of last year.

“All in all, I assume that a constructive approach will bear fruit and lead to a solution to this situation that has been going on for almost a year, and that represents a serious obstacle to the realization of socioeconomic development plans. President Vučić has already stated the specific damage in numbers,” said Harchenko.
