Two MEPs have announced that they have handed over to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, a letter given to them by Serbian cycling students when they arrived in Strasbourg three weeks ago.
“We handed over the letter that the students from Serbia – with full trust – gave us three weeks ago when they traveled by bicycle to Strasbourg,” MEP Gordan Bosanac wrote on the X network.
He added that the fact that the students’ demands have reached the highest instances of the European Parliament is “an important step forward for all those who want a different, better Serbia.”
MEP Irena Joveva also announced this, saying that the Serbian students’ fight for justice has “reached another important point.”
With my colleagues in EP, we delivered the Serbian students' letters to President Roberta Metsola today. Their inspiring fight for justice reaches another important milestone. Just as them we stand firm for rule of law, justice, accountability and democracy. #SerbianStudents 🇷🇸🇪🇺 pic.twitter.com/9gLayzMJl9

About eighty students and citizens set off on April 3rd by bicycle from the University of Novi Sad campus to the seat of European institutions in Strasbourg, in order to draw the attention of the European public to student demands and the situation in Serbia after the canopy collapse on November 1st. Over 13 days, they traveled about 1,400 kilometers to Strasbourg.
Members of the European Parliament are today discussing in Strasbourg the first report and resolution of the Rapporteur for Serbia, Tonino Picula. The report will be voted on on Wednesday, May 7th.
