An Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed in the Kazakh city of Aktau, and the Kazakh Ministry of Emergency Situations has reported that 42 people are believed to be dead. There were 62 passengers and five crew members on board the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, the Kazakh Ministry of Transport announced. Footage of the crash has appeared on social media, showing the plane catching fire after hitting the ground. Emergency services and rescue teams are on the scene, the BBC reports.
“At this time, 14 survivors have been transferred to the regional hospital, including five in intensive care,” the regional health ministry said in a statement.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that firefighters have extinguished the blaze.

The plane was traveling from Baku in Azerbaijan to Grozny and had reportedly requested an emergency landing before the tragedy occurred.
According to RIA Novosti, the flight was diverted to Aktau, Kazakhstan, due to fog in Grozny. A special investigation will be conducted into the accident, the Kazakh Ministry of Transport announced.
