Unlike most Serbian emigrants in America, who dig with their hands and feet to secure “papers” that will allow them to stay in the promised land, Nikola Dokić for years did not want to come to the USA even though he had everything he needed, or rather the most important thing – a green card.

He only came when he assessed that it would help him realize the dreams he dreamed on the Belgrade asphalt, back as a teenager playing with the local crew. He was not mistaken. Today, Nikola is a music producer and engineer who works with one of the biggest American rock bands, Smashing Pumpkins, with whom he has already recorded three studio albums, and has had the opportunity to work with many other famous musicians…

He told Serbian Times editor Antonio Kovačević about everything he went through to achieve his American dream and how he came to call three places in the world his home.

Enjoy Nikola’s confession that follows…
