The suspect in the infanticide case, I.Š. (28) from Plužine in Montenegro, will defend herself while free in further proceedings. She is suspected of killing her newborn baby three days ago during childbirth or immediately after.
The baby boy’s body was found on Sunday in a trash can in the Podgorica neighborhood of Blok 9.
The investigation in this case is being led by the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica, from where they confirmed for “Dan” that the suspect was heard and that she was not detained.
“I am informing you that the acting prosecutor in the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Podgorica heard the person I.Š., who is being treated at the Clinical Center of Montenegro, and that she was not detained, but regular proceedings will be conducted against her,” “Dan” was informed from the Podgorica Basic State Prosecutor’s Office.
The suspect resides in Podgorica, where she lived with her brother and was employed.

The body of the boy, who is suspected of being killed immediately after birth or during childbirth, was found by an employee of JP “Čistoća”, who immediately informed the police about it. The identification of the suspect was facilitated by the very first pieces of evidence that the inspectors came across. Namely, the baby’s body was in a shoe box that was ordered online. Based on the bar code, the police came to the address of the person to whom the shipment was delivered. It was determined that it was an apartment located about 200 meters from the location where the baby’s body was found. The police found a woman in a serious condition in that apartment and traces that indicate a strong suspicion that she gave birth there.

Since I.Š. was found in a very serious health condition, life-threatening, she was urgently transferred to the Clinical Center of Montenegro. Also, on the seized video recordings, she was recorded throwing the box into the trash can, and in the apartment she was found in the same clothes she was wearing when she was filmed.
Based on the traces in the apartment, but also after the examination of the suspect, suspicions that she killed the baby were confirmed.
An autopsy of the newborn’s body was ordered to determine the exact cause of death beyond doubt.
