Former U.S. President and current Republican candidate in the upcoming American elections scheduled for November 5, 2024, Donald Trump, declared himself the “father of IVF” after a rally held at the city hall in Pennsylvania.

His views on abortion have been under intense scrutiny from the opposing camp. He has previously spoken negatively about abortion, and now he is attempting to ease the situation and keep female voters on his side by addressing reproductive health issues.

During his remarks, he touched on the topic of in vitro fertilization (IVF) as a practice he wholeheartedly supports, especially after a court in the conservative state of Alabama ruled this year that “frozen embryos are unborn children” and that abortion is banned.

“We are truly a party that supports in vitro fertilization,” Trump said while guesting on Harris Faulkner’s show on Fox News. “We want fertilization, and that’s the whole story, and the Democrats are trying to attack us for that, but we are more for it than they are. That’s why we have the advantage,” Trump emphasized. “I am the father of IVF,” he added.

The former president did not provide any further explanation of what his statement meant. His opponent in the election, Kamala Harris, wrote on social media: “Donald Trump considers himself the father of IVF.”

“What is he talking about? His abortion bans threaten women’s rights across the state, and he has no right to speak about IVF,” she said.

The ruling in Alabama has become a focal point of a broader discussion around reproductive rights. The state’s Supreme Court declared frozen embryos as children, stating that anyone who destroys them could be liable for wrongful death.

Trump’s alternative to setting his own abortion policy, as well as his stance on when life begins, has been to say that it is an issue that should be decided by the states. However, he also used the city hall event to state that some states have gone too far and are “too strict” in restricting abortions. He promised that regulations would be reworked in some manner, without providing further details.
