At a protest in Novi Sad, members of the Gendarmerie carried out a sudden and violent intervention against the assembled citizens who were peacefully protesting. Members of the gendarmerie surrounded the demonstrators who were peacefully in the campus. Tear gas, pyrotechnics, pepper spray were thrown at them, and cannon shots were also heard.
The citizens were surrounded by four cordons of police in full anti-riot gear. The citizens were protesting peacefully, when members of the Gendarmerie suddenly appeared on the street and surrounded them. In the campus, cannon shots were soon heard, then pyrotechnics were thrown and pepper spray was used.
In a statement by students blocking the Faculty of Law in Novi Sad, they say that the police are throwing cannon shots and pyrotechnics, that they have completely occupied the campus.

The Gendarmerie cleared the campus not only of citizens and students but also of medical workers, doctors and medical students who were here to provide first aid to the citizens.

At one point, several objects started to fly towards them.
A completely unnecessarily provoked incident by the police – with these words, one citizen described tonight’s attack.
He said that he was standing in front of the Rectorate building, when about 20 police officers ran out of that building and started hitting people.
From the videos published on social networks, citizens can be seen and heard choking on tear gas, covering their faces with masks, t-shirts, in order to get some air.
