In Gračanica, at the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic of the Clinical Hospital Center, the first baby of 2026 was born yesterday at 9:20 AM.

The mother, Marina Radivojević from Štrpce, brought her first child into the world on January 1, 2026—a healthy baby girl weighing 3,085 grams. Following a C-section delivery, she stated that she feels well and is overjoyed.

“This is my first baby. Everyone from the cleaners to the doctors and nurses has been wonderful; they are the best. My message to young women would be to give birth as much as possible,” Radivojević briefly told Kosovo Online.

A Gift from Banja Luka

The Committee for Assistance to Kosovo and Metohija from Banja Luka (Republika Srpska) congratulated the New Year and presented a gift of 500 euros to the first Serbian baby born in the New Year at the Gračanica maternity ward.

“Children are the greatest foundation for the survival and existence of the Serbian people on our Holy Land. The gift was presented on behalf of the Committee by Ivana Rakić, assistant to the Committee President and head of the ‘Support Me – January 9th’ Day Center from Kosovska Mitrovica. She also distributed gift packages to all the babies and young mothers currently in the Gračanica maternity ward,” the Committee’s statement read.

Serbian mothers in maternity wards in Kosovska Mitrovica and Pasjane will also receive 500-euro gifts, the Committee announced.

Humanitarian Efforts from Students

“Our Committee secured these funds through the major humanitarian campaign ‘Let’s Bring Joy to Our Peers in Kosovo and Metohija,’ which we are conducting through primary and secondary schools in Republika Srpska with the support of the Ministry of Education and Culture. The campaign has been extended until January 31, and so far, about 60,000 students from 103 schools in Republika Srpska have participated,” the statement emphasized, adding that they will continue similar actions throughout the year.
