Farmer Predrag Veljković, member of the Association of Dairy Producers of Šumadija and Pomoravlje, announced that the blockade of the Ibarska Highway in Mrčajevci will be relocated to Miločaj.
The decision was made at a farmers’ meeting on Friday evening, which for the first time included local business owners from Mrčajevci.
“Due to protests from residents who were ‘on the edge of incidents,’ they decided to move the blockade from Mrčajevci to Miločaj,” Veljković said.
Farmers emphasized that the decision was made out of respect for local business owners, who complained that the multi-day blockade disrupted their work, as well as for residents of the town, whose daily life was also significantly affected.
A member of the Association of Dairy Producers of Šumadija and Pomoravlje apologized to the residents and business owners of Mrčajevci for the prolonged disruption caused by the blockade.
He added that road blockades across Serbia continue today and that the farmers have yet to receive any response from the Government of Serbia to their request for an urgent meeting to discuss the agricultural issues prompting the protests.
