The Serbian cadet basketball team has advanced to the final of the European Championship.
The “Eaglets” were better than Slovenia in the semifinal with a score of 90:58 (26:17, 19:6, 22:21, 23:14).
They will fight for the title of European champion against Lithuania, which had defeated Italy earlier today.
The game started with points from Roznik, which was answered by Simjanovski, as well as a three-pointer from Kusturica (5:2). We saw a very efficient start to the match, and Simjanovski was especially in form—with eight points, he gave the “Eaglets” a 13:6 lead. Serbia continued at the same pace, with Kusturica joining Simjanovski, and after seven minutes of the match, our team had a double-digit lead (20:10). By the end of the quarter, Serbia managed to maintain the lead, with Simjanovski’s points concluding the first ten minutes (26:17).
The beginning of the second quarter was marked by Bjelica and Kusturica—the former scored four points, while the latter, with his new three-pointer, gave Serbia its biggest lead of +13 (35:22). Serbia continued its great performance, as shown by the fact that the Slovenians scored only one point in the last seven minutes of the first half—Pregl did it from the free throw line, five minutes before the end of the quarter. A three-pointer by Simjanovski and a two-pointer by Kusturica gave Serbia a large 22-point lead (45:23), and it’s interesting that no points were scored in the last three minutes—45:23 was the final score of the first part of the match.
Serbia continued where it left off in the first half, and the continuation opened with three-pointers from Simjanovski and Kusturica, the best individuals in the “Eaglets'” ranks (51:27). Jarc with five consecutive points slightly pushed back the rush of our team, but Bjelica and Lukić brought Serbia back to a comfortable lead (58:32). It was mostly a basket-for-basket game for the rest of the third quarter, and Serbia entered the final quarter with a huge 23-point lead (67:44). In the end, they celebrated with a final score of 90:58.
