After Dušan Maksimović was sentenced to a draconian 30 years in prison without a single piece of material evidence linking him to the conflict in Banjska, his family says they are shaken by the verdict for a crime he did not commit. While the court ignored the fact that Maksimović was not even at the scene on the fateful September 24, which was confirmed by the other defendants sentenced to life imprisonment, the family announces a fight with evidence against every word of the rationale for this decision.

After the passing of this verdict, the Maksimović family reached out with a statement which we transmit in its entirety:

“As a family, we are deeply shaken by the verdict handed down to our Dušan for something he did not do.

Dušan fought in the courtroom with arguments and we will continue to respect him and his legal struggle, we will continue in that way, with dignity.

When we receive the explanation of the verdict, we will respond to every word of it with evidence that speaks to the contrary.

Dušan is an ordinary man who has nothing to do with politics and therefore we ask that it remains so.

Also, on this occasion, we want to thank the entire public for the words of support which mean immensely to us in these moments.”
