Two 13-year-old boys were admitted to the Clinic for Eye Diseases following injuries from firecrackers during New Year’s Eve. A total of 160 people were injured, 20 of whom were hurt by pyrotechnic devices, reports RTS.
At the Emergency Center of the Military Medical Academy (VMA), staff say they had their hands full last night with a high volume of calls and several cases of severe trauma—most commonly caused by pyrotechnics.
The chief surgeon on duty at the VMA, Prof. Dr. Boško Milev, stated that more than 160 injured persons were treated during the night. “What I would highlight are the more than 20 injuries sustained from explosive devices, such as firecrackers and ‘cannon shots’ (topovski udari). Among them are two 13-year-old boys admitted to the Eye Clinic due to facial and eye injuries caused by firecrackers,” Milev noted.
According to him, the other injuries are classified as severe bodily harm, including hand injuries and finger amputations, all of which were consequences of explosive devices.
