With two votes for, two against, and seven abstentions, the central election commission did not certify the right of the Serbian List and its candidates to participate in the local elections in Kosovo and Metohija on October 12 of this year. Earlier today, the Chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Pristina, Anu Pratipati, told Albin Kurti that it is very important for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija to be included in the local elections.

Two members of Albin Kurti’s Self-Determination movement were against the Serbian List, and they initiated the non-acceptance of its application.

A member of the central election commission from the Self-Determination movement, Aljban Krasnići, requested at the meeting of the central election commission that a vote be cast against the certification of the Serbian List, claiming that there is evidence from the judicial system that allegedly points to specific people who are part of parallel structures and for whom an arrest warrant has been issued, and some are even at large.

“There are documents and evidence brought by Kosovo security institutions, which confirm possible facts about specific individuals who are part of parallel structures that have been declared terrorist organizations, individuals who are at large and are wanted by security agencies, and if we allow this, and in this case, I appeal to the Complaints Panel, that if they also accidentally allow the Serbian List to return here for certification with this scandalous content of criminals, then it should be known that a kind of coup is being carried out here against the state itself, by some of those very bodies and institutions that should be helping the state to cleanse it of individuals with criminal activities even as we speak,” said Krasnići, as reported by Albanian-language media.

The representative of the Democratic League of Kosovo in the CEC, Sami Hamiti, commented on the request of the Self-Determination representative, saying that it is the National Security Council that needs to meet and resolve this issue.

Hamiti stated that the CEC is not the one to declare someone a terrorist, but the security agencies are.

“We have come to a situation where I see various documents, where we have them in our hands, and the security agencies do not. That is worrying, today the National Security Council should meet, get those documents and choose them for us. The security agencies should take them, meet and say that this is a terrorist organization, to declare it because we do not declare it. Let them do their job, let them make our job easier. Let them do their job, let them show us that this is a list, and it’s normal since we are people here not to certify something that should not be,” said Hamiti.

Earlier today, the Chargé d’affaires at the US Embassy in Pristina, Anu Pratipati, told Albin Kurti that it is very important for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija to be included in the local elections on October 12, warning him that he and his “Self-Determination” movement should not try to exclude some parties from the voting process.

“We talked about actions with the acting prime minister, because we understand that the acting prime minister and the ‘Self-Determination’ movement are considering excluding some political parties from participating in the upcoming local elections,” Pratipati told the media after the meeting.

She explained that she believes that all citizens should have a full opportunity to elect their representatives.

“It is very important that Kosovo Serbs are included in this process and we are concerned about any attempt to limit their choice. I made these points clear to the acting prime minister and underlined the attention of the US to this issue,” Pratipati said.

The Serbian List Announced

The Serbian List announced that, although all legal conditions have been met, the central election commission has not certified our candidates for mayors and councilors. Such a decision was made despite the fact that the competent Certification Office confirmed that all candidates of the Serbian List fully meet the legal criteria.

“We believe that this is another example of political discrimination and engineering by which Albin Kurti seeks to prevent the participation of the Serbian List, while favoring quasi-Serbian parties close to him,” the statement said.

As it is added, “such behavior represents a severe blow to the rule of law and is proof that the international community, even after more than two decades, has not managed to establish a just and democratic system, and that its calls to Kurti to respect the law and the rights of the Serbian people are absolutely not taken seriously, which, we believe, should be a call for their serious reaction.”

“Aware that he and his henchmen from the Serbian ranks do not have the support of the Serbian people, Kurti openly violates his own laws and rules in order to weaken the Serbian List and break the unity of the Serbian people, thanks to which Serbs represent a political factor in these areas,” the Serbian List points out.

It is added that the Serbian List remains consistent with the interests of the Serbian people in Kosovo and Metohija and that it will continue to fight for their rights and survival, despite all pressures and injustices.

“This decision of Kurti’s will be an incentive for us to fight even harder and more decisively for the right of Serbs to elect their own councilors and mayors, but not the ones that Kurti serves them,” the Serbian List says.

For tomorrow, the Serbian List announces a press conference at which it will speak in more detail about the decision, which they rate as scandalous, illegal, and anti-Serbian.
