Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić stated that ten people were detained due to yesterday’s incidents near the university in Novi Pazar, that some others have been identified in video recordings, and that all will be prosecuted.
“The police did not enter the University. They did not touch anyone, but were attacked,” Dačić told TV Pink, adding that Serbs and Bosniaks are complaining to him because they are being threatened when they condemn the incidents in Novi Pazar.
He said that most of those detained are over 30 years old, so only two could be considered students, and that people are being arrested regardless of their national affiliation.
Dačić said that it is up to the University whom they will hire for physical security and that these are not some “street thugs” but “legitimate organizations that deal with this in accordance with the law.”
“I call on everyone to calm passions. The state has mechanisms to maintain public order and peace, but it’s better not to use them,” Dačić said.
