A Croatian citizen, who disappeared more than three decades ago in Germany and was declared dead, has been found in France, where he lives with a changed identity and another family.

Croatian citizen Boris C. from the German federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia was found alive thanks to the show Aktencaihen XY, known for solving old and unsolved cases.

According to Fenix Magazin, Boris disappeared back in 1994, when he was 37 years old. His case then looked like a serious crime – his car was found in Düsseldorf, and in it, traces of blood that were later confirmed to belong to him. Investigators immediately assumed he had been murdered, and his family officially declared him dead in 1997.

However, after more than 30 years, an incredible twist occurred. Authorities discovered that Boris was not murdered, but had planned his disappearance in advance.

According to data reported by Fenix Magazin, he admitted that he was heavily in debt at the time and feared for the safety of himself and his loved ones. That’s why he decided to disappear by faking a violent crime, deliberately injuring himself to leave bloody traces in the car and convince the police that he had been murdered.

Thanks to the aforementioned German show, the investigation was reopened and led to an incredible discovery: Boris is alive, has a new family, and continued his life in France, Zagreb’s N1 reported.
