Previous Developments
As a reminder, the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade announced that eight suspects were questioned today regarding the criminal offenses of Preparing Acts Against the Constitutional Order and Security of Serbia, in connection with the criminal offense of Inciting a Violent Change of the Constitutional Order. The prosecutor’s office had proposed to the preliminary proceedings judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade that they be remanded in custody.
The suspects Bojo B. from Belgrade, Lazar S. from Zaječar, Dimitrije D. from Niš, Nikola P. from Sombor, Dimitrije S. from Niš, and Dušan S. from Belgrade denied committing the criminal offenses, while Luka S. partially admitted to the offense, and Ivana M. from Smederevo presented her defense, according to the statement.
It is highlighted that there are grounds to suspect that on June 20, in the premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and on June 21, in the premises of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, the suspects, among other things, planned and prepared an attack on the National Assembly and the Government, a blockade of roads and crucial infrastructure throughout the country, and an intrusion into the EXPO construction site, in order to violently change the state order.
Furthermore, it is added that at the meeting in the premises of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, it is suspected that the “ultimatum” for holding elections was merely a pretext for the use of violence, because, according to the participants of the meeting, even if the demand for holding elections in August was immediately accepted, they would not win those elections.
