The Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade will file appeals against the decisions by which the preliminary proceedings judge of the Higher Court in Belgrade rejected the proposal to order detention for eight suspects involved in associating and preparing for the violent change of the state order.
“Appeals will be filed with the criminal extra-judicial panel of the court, with a proposal to overturn the decisions and order detention for all suspects, in view of the specific circumstances indicating that they will repeat the criminal offense in a short period of time,” the prosecutor’s office announced.
Charges and Allegations
The suspects are charged with the criminal offenses of associating for the purpose of committing criminal acts, preparing acts against the constitutional order and security of Serbia in connection with the criminal offense of inciting a violent change of the constitutional order.
Suspects B.B. from Belgrade, L.S. from Zaječar, D.D. from Niš, N.P. from Sombor, D.S. from Niš, and D.S. from Belgrade denied committing the criminal offenses during questioning, while L.S. partially admitted to the offense. I.M. from Smederevo presented her defense.
It is alleged that on June 20, 2025, at the premises of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and on June 21, 2025, at the premises of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, they, among other things, discussed and prepared an attack on state institutions – the National Assembly and the Government of the Republic of Serbia, a blockade of roads and crucial infrastructure throughout the country, and an intrusion into the EXPO construction site, all with the aim of violently changing the state order.
Alleged Motive for Violence
Furthermore, at the meeting in the premises of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, it is suspected that the “ultimatum” for holding elections was merely a pretext for the use of violence, because, according to the participants of the meeting, even if the demand for holding elections in August were immediately accepted, they would not win those elections.
