After the tragic traffic accident in which priest Nenad Mitrić (33) and his wife Nedeljka (32) lost their lives, a large humanitarian action was launched to help their children, and in a short period, apartments were secured for the little ones who were left without parents.
The initiative was started by Derventa businessman Milanko Balešević, who announced that he is donating a 55-square-meter apartment in Derventa, and called on two more people or companies to get involved so that each of the three children would have their own home.
“I will personally donate one apartment to these children, and I hope that we will jointly provide two more, so that each child has their own place to grow up and a new beginning,” stated Balešević, emphasizing that this is a small contribution to a great tragedy. His initiative quickly resonated, and numerous individuals joined the action.
The Mayor of Banja Luka, Draško Stanivuković, was among the first to react and confirmed that he too would donate one apartment.
“Our moral and Christian obligation is to help each other in times of trouble. This is my way to help the children who have experienced the greatest loss,” said Stanivuković.
Shortly after that, it was confirmed that two more apartments would be provided by the president of the SNSD, Milorad Dodik, and the president of the Supervisory Board of the “Jahorina” Olympic Center, Nedeljko Elek, thereby fulfilling the goal of the “Three children – three apartments” campaign. As a reminder, the accident occurred on April 2 on the Derventa – Brod main road, in the town of Novo Selo, when the Mitrićs lost their lives. Their three children were in the car at the moment of the accident, were injured, and were hospitalized.
In addition to providing housing, other humanitarian actions continue, and Balešević said that the financial aid collected by citizens will remain for the children’s daily needs and future.
