A major “Student Edict” protest is being held in Niš at the call of students from the University of Niš, on the occasion of four months since the collapse of the canopy at the Railway Station in Novi Sad, when 15 people died and two people were seriously injured. Students and other citizens have been gathering since nine o’clock at four locations across the city, from where they will walk to the center and King Milan Square. The protest and blockade will last 18 hours – until three o’clock after midnight. Students from all over the country arrived in the city last night on foot, running and by bicycle, where the people of Niš welcomed them in front of the National Theatre.
Self-organized doctors and medical workers in Niš provided assistance to students during the night and morning with injuries sustained during walking, running and cycling to this city.
Citizens of Niš and organizers of the student protest set up makeshift stands with juices, fruits, coffees, teas and meals before the start of the “Student Edict”.
The police, especially the traffic police, whose members are deployed all over the city, as well as the Gendarmerie and policemen from other parts of Serbia, prepared for the security of the gathering.

The protest and blockade will last 18 hours, from 9 a.m. to three o’clock after midnight.
Students and other citizens gather at four locations across the city – near Niteks, the Cathedral Church, the Medical Faculty building and at the intersection of Vardarska and Jovana Ristić Streets – from where they will walk in columns towards the city center and King Milan Square.
At 11:52 a tribute will be paid to those who died in the collapse of the canopy, while the official program is scheduled to begin at 12:15.
The play “The Constitution” starts at 1:00 p.m., and the band “Tympanic Membrane” is scheduled to perform from 4 p.m.

The main event starts at 5:52 p. The children’s choir is expected to perform from 6:00 p.m., followed by a speech by students, the publication of the student edict, the performance of the blockade choir and a performance by students and actors.
The band “Rebellion” is scheduled to perform at 9:00 p.m.
At 11:52 p.m. a new commemoration for the victims of the tragedy in Novi Sad is planned, lasting 15 minutes, followed by a space cleaning action.
