The detention of Faculty of Technical Sciences student Bogdan Jovičić (22), in which he has been held since August 15, will be replaced by house arrest with the application of electronic monitoring, according to a decision by the Higher Court in Novi Sad.
As confirmed to Danas, “by the decision of the preliminary proceedings judge of the Higher Court in Novi Sad, detention was revoked for the suspect Bogdan Jovičić and the measure of prohibition from leaving the apartment with the application of electronic monitoring was ordered for a period of three months. An appeal to the criminal extra-judicial panel of this court is permitted against this decision.”
Let us recall, Jovičić was detained in Novi Sad in mid-August on suspicion of damaging the SNS premises in that city and damaging the glass on a vehicle.
Due to the extension of his detention, the student went on a hunger strike.
Jovičić’s father passed away during his days in detention, and the public was greatly disturbed at that moment because the student was brought to the funeral with his legs tied.
He also spent part of his detention days in the prison hospital due to his poor health condition as a result of the hunger strike.
Student Bogdan Jovičić is charged with violent behavior at public gatherings, namely causing material damage to the premises of the Serbian Progressive Party during protests in front of those premises in Novi Sad, on August 13.
In the meantime, the charges against Bogdan have been expanded, so they now charge him with damaging a windshield on one car.
Bogdan Jovičić’s Letter
Jovičić addressed the public from detention with a letter in which he stated that he was not asking for mercy or pity, but that the institutions should act in accordance with the law.
“The time is now, louder than ever, for everyone to hear what repression is being carried out against us. I do not ask for mercy or pity from them. I ask the institutions to act in accordance with the law, and not according to the orders of the regime. If justice is impossible in this country, then the only just thing is to fight for it with one’s life. I continue the hunger strike until I am allowed to defend myself while free, in accordance with the law,” Bogdan Jovičić stated, among other things.
