The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today that the current events in the country began with a story about alleged great ideals and the fight for justice, but that behind this is political abuse and attacks on Serbia’s independence.
In his address to the nation, Vučić recalled that in the past, when Serbia went through numerous tragedies, such as the fire in Novi Sad in which 16 people died, there was no talk of justice or media campaigns like today’s.
-At that time, there were no occupation media services that would use tragedy as a weapon. Nor did we hear calls for justice in North Macedonia, where there was also clear human responsibility. In Serbia, however, this rhetoric appeared, but exclusively as ammunition aimed against a sovereign and independent state – Vučić pointed out.
He emphasized that behind the slogans about ideals and justice is a political project of destabilizing Serbia and undermining its independence.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated that the talks between the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, and the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, are of crucial importance for humanity, Europe, and also for Serbia. He emphasized that the eventual achievement of peace would lead to a reduction or complete disappearance of the tensions that exist towards Serbia, which would also enable the strengthening of economic cooperation with the great powers, as well as a focus on internal priorities.
-The establishment of peace is most important for the planet and for Serbia. Part of the tensions directed against our country and our people will be smaller or will disappear, and that will allow us to turn to economic cooperation with these and other countries, as well as solving key issues for our future – Vučić said in a public address.
New measures to improve standards
Vučić announced that in the next seven to ten days, a program of measures aimed at increasing the purchasing power of citizens will be presented. According to him, the state is committed to creating new plans that will enable citizens to “better welcome the winter.”
-Wages and pensions will continue to grow and will gain real significance if we continue to keep prices under control. These measures will also include lower interest rates for loans and borrowings, which will significantly facilitate the lives of citizens – the president pointed out.
As one of the priorities, Vučić also mentioned the protection of the family home, emphasizing that executors must not have the right to take away the apartment or house in which citizens live.
-The preservation of the home as a basic living space will be one of the key points of my work in the coming period – the president of Serbia added.
“Serbia believes that the establishment of peace is the highest interest of all. It is also of huge importance for our country because part of the pressure against Serbia will be reduced, weakened, or will completely disappear,” Vučić said.
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said that the current events in the country did not arise from real ideals and principles of justice, but from the abuse of great words and slogans. He emphasized that “it is strange how at a time when, for example, in Novi Sad, 16 people died in a fire due to human fault and the responsibility of city officials, no one talked about justice,” while today the same word is used as a political weapon against a sovereign and independent Serbia.
Vučić added that even in other countries in the region, such as North Macedonia, the concept of justice was not in the foreground when the guilt was obvious, while in Serbia, this very narrative is used “as ammunition in the political struggle.”
-What I wanted was to talk today about a better standard of living, about price reductions and new measures that will enable the growth of wages and pensions. We are fighting for the people of Serbia to live better and for their incomes to have full significance if we keep prices under control – Vučić said.
The president added that one of the priorities for the state is the protection of the family home, so that executors would never have the right to take away the roof over the heads of citizens. However, he pointed out that the extraordinary address was organized due to, as he assessed, the “horrifying events” that took place in Valjevo, Belgrade and Novi Sad in the previous days.
“Justice as a political weapon”
Vučić emphasized that the current political crisis began under the pretext of fighting for justice, but that the concept was abused. He recalled the tragic fires in Novi Sad in which 16 people died, emphasizing that at that time there was no talk of justice, although there was clear human and institutional responsibility.
-In North Macedonia, where four times more people died in a fire, there was also no talk of justice. So why was there in Serbia? Because that word was used as a weapon and ammunition in the fight against a free, sovereign and independent country – the president said.
Attack on education and institutions
Speaking about the events after the tragedy at the “Vladislav Ribnikar” school, Vučić assessed that part of the public used the pain of the families of the victims to act politically, and then, as he stated, “de facto began to collapse the educational system.”
-Our faculties have been turned into a space that looks more like pigsties than institutions of knowledge. Instead of school and education, we got the demolition of the system, with applause and cheering, as if it were the greatest success. And then we heard shouts that they were against violence, while at the same time they were fabricating countless lies about alleged attacks at the Faculty of Law, where they were actually in conflict with each other – Vučić said.
He assessed that all this was accompanied by attempts to limit freedom of movement and violate the legal order with support from outside, with a clear message that Serbia should not respect its own Constitution and laws.
