Republika Srpska is marking the 33rd anniversary of the founding of the Army of Republika Srpska (VRS), formed on May 12, 1992, by the decision of the Assembly of the Serbian People in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This anniversary represents an opportunity to remember all members of the VRS who participated in the defense of Republika Srpska during the Defense-Patriotic War.
During the war, about 210,000 soldiers passed through the ranks of the VRS, of whom 23,801 were killed, and more than 40,000 were wounded. The Army of Republika Srpska played a key role in preserving the territorial integrity and security of the Serbian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The central ceremony marking the Day of the Army of Republika Srpska is being held in the “Kozara” barracks in Banja Luka, with the presence of the highest officials of Republika Srpska, including President Milorad Dodik, Prime Minister Radovan Višković, and the Serbian member of the Presidency of BiH Željka Cvijanović. During the ceremony, tribute is paid to the fallen soldiers and civilian victims of the war, and those present lay wreaths and attend a memorial service.
