The newly elected American president, Donald Trump, intends to appoint loyalist Kash Patel as the next FBI Director, he announced on Saturday, a move that would result in the removal of the current agency director.
Trump named the former Pentagon advisor and official, who has been critical of the federal agency responsible for investigations and is known for his controversial views on the so-called government “deep state,” as his choice for the position on his Truth Social network.
Current FBI Director Christopher Wray was appointed to a 10-year term in 2017, meaning he will either have to resign or be removed. Under Wray’s leadership, the FBI, which was appointed by Trump, investigated the future president, causing Trump’s anger.
“Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator, and fighter for ‘America First,’ who has spent his career uncovering corruption, defending justice, and protecting the American people,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

A fierce defender of the newly elected president, Patel supports the Republican hard-right idea of an anti-Trump “deep state” – allegedly biased government bureaucrats working against Trump behind the scenes, and he even wrote a book on the subject.
The son of Indian immigrants, Patel held several high positions during Trump’s first term, including National Security Advisor and Deputy Director of the Defense Secretary’s office.
“Kash did an incredible job during my first term,” Trump said, adding that Patel will work on “ending the growing epidemic of crime in America, dismantling migrant criminal groups, and stopping the evil plague of human and drug trafficking across the border.”
