The Serbian kickboxing team achieved great success at the senior European Championship held in Athens. Our kickboxers won a total of 18 medals, including five gold, five silver, and eight bronze.

Nikola Todorović, Veljko Mićović, Nikola Filipović, Lea Blagojević, and Stanislava Sinovec took home the most coveted gold medals. Boban Nikolić, Lazar Stupar, Lidija Abazovski, Teodora Vidić, and Nevena Stefanović won silver, while bronze medals went to Đorđe Savić, Damir Sejdija, Danijel Memedovski, Manojlo Đurić, Aleksandar Menković, Marko Šimpraga, Saida Bukvić, and Saška Krstić.

The quality of the Serbian kickboxers’ fights is best evidenced by the fact that Nikola Filipović was named the best fighter in the ring disciplines.

“We achieved a truly impressive result. I must point out that we had a total of nine finalists, but unfortunately, the other members of our team narrowly missed out on gold medals,” Filipović summarized his impressions from the championship in the Greek capital and then added:

“We had a very good energy within the team and that was visible at every step. The preparations were better than ever and everyone in the Federation deserves all the praise for the conditions that were provided for us. Also, the coaches were a great support, we got good advice and all the necessary information about our rivals in a timely manner. I must also praise all my colleagues from the national team, because they came to the preparations better prepared than ever. They took everything very seriously, so the result couldn’t have been any different.”

Regarding the flattering recognition as the best fighter in ring disciplines, Filipović said:

“I fought three matches, one ended with a heavy knockdown, and the other two with heavy knockouts. For that reason, it could have been expected that I would get the trophy for the best fighter. The feeling is truly incredible, I was honored, and that is certainly something that every athlete appreciates,” Filipović stated.

The coach of the Serbian kickboxing team, Siniša Vladimirović, also expressed great satisfaction with the results achieved, considering that a total of 982 competitors from 41 countries participated in the Old Continent championship.

“The European Championship was very strong, with many quality fighters. The teams of Ukraine, Turkey, and Poland traditionally had a large number of outstanding competitors. And everyone else came maximally prepared, especially in the K1 discipline because this championship was also a qualifying competition for the upcoming World Games, which will be held in China,” said Vladimirović and then analyzed the performance of our representatives in more detail:

“Everyone left a good impression. I don’t want to look for any alibis, but if we had had just a little more fair judging, our medal tally would have been even better. Damir Sejdija and Boban Nikolić were perhaps the most unfairly treated, and the judges made quite a mistake in the matches of Saida Bukvić and Lazar Stupar. I must praise all our representatives for their dedication, the results achieved, and how they fought for their country. Nikola Filipović confirmed that he is an outstanding kickboxer, while Veljko Mićović took advantage of the opportunity, left a great impression and showed that he could be the new hope of our kickboxing,” concluded Vladimirović.
