Crvena zvezda basketball players have secured the TOP 10 a round before the end of the EuroLeague! The red-and-whites defeated Asvel – 106:93, and took advantage of Dubai’s defeat to Efes, which brought them placement in the playoffs and the continuation of dreams about the EuroLeague F4.
Moneke and Nwora opened the game excellently. The American had a great sequence in which he scored seven quick points, including one monstrous dunk. Zvezda played good defense in the first quarter and calmly in offense, exactly what is most needed in such games. Zvezda very quickly took a ten-point lead, but lost that advantage even faster thanks to the inspired Thomas Heurtel. Because of him, the result of the first period was tied – 26:26.

Zvezda again started the second quarter excellently. Jared Butler finally got into a rhythm, scoring five points and recording a great assist to Izundu, so Zvezda escaped to an eight-point lead very quickly. The Belgrade red-and-whites found the rhythm from the beginning of the match and again reached a double-digit lead in the middle of the second period with good defense and patient offense. The red-and-whites held that lead until the end of the half and gained a nice cushion before the continuation of the match.
Zvezda started incredibly poorly in the continuation; Harrison and Angola led Asvel to a 16:2 run, and the team from France took advantage of Saša Obradović’s team’s nervousness. Zvezda did not have many available options in offense, but Jared Butler kept the team from Mali Kalemegdan in the third period, so with his points, they gained a three-point lead before the decisive ten minutes in Lyon.

Ebuka Izundu was excellent at the beginning of the fourth quarter; on two occasions he “corrected” misses, first by Butler, then by Codi, and Saša Obradović’s team reached a plus of ten points. However, a foul followed by Nikola Kalinić on a shot by Braian Angola, which brought easy points to the former Partizan player. Jordan Nwora and Jared Butler brought the key edge and, with their points, secured Zvezda’s placement in the TOP 10.
Jared Butler and Jordan Nwora scored 24 points each, Moneke added 15, and Codi Miller-McIntyre one less. Braian Angola was the most efficient for Asvel with 22 points.
