Stefan Radovanovic, a student vice-dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Belgrade, stated that he has problems with the management of that faculty because, as he claims, they have been trying to remove him from the position of vice-dean since the moment online classes were voted on.
He said on the show “Dan uzivo” on N1 that he broke his ankle on June 1, which is why he has been in a cast for two and a half months and walks with crutches.
A few days after that, a session of the Teaching and Scientific Council was held regarding online classes, against which 70 percent of students had expressed their opinion via email at the time.
“As vice-dean, I went with the cast and crutches to the council with the intention of defending the survey. At that time, online classes were not voted in,” he said.
As he said, an extraordinary council meeting was scheduled again seven days later, and two days before it was held, the faculty’s secretary told him that he could not attend because he was not a member of the council by function.
“No one disputed that the first time I was at the council. For the next one, I was told that I am not a member of the council,” he said, connecting it with his stance on online classes, which he believes the faculty management did not like.
Since then, as he recounted, the biggest problems have begun.
“I got a call from the vice-dean for education, the vice-dean for science, saying they don’t know what to do with me, that they have to find a replacement, that health is most important, and they insisted on me resting,” said Radovanovic, who is currently in his master’s program and is one of the best students at the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
As vice-dean, he said, he received a compensation of about 22,000 dinars, and so far he has received one payment—in April of 67,000 dinars.
He said that his mother is sick and that they receive social assistance of 12,000 dinars and a scholarship that he receives as one of the best students. After the online classes were voted in, he said, he and his mother were called to social services to give a statement about the 67,000 payment.

The social services, he says, also called the faculty to check if he was a student vice-dean and were told that they would have their social assistance and his scholarship revoked.
Currently, he says, about 7,740 dinars is the only source of income they have.
He also initiated, he adds, an internal whistleblowing process.
“I sent an email to the dean with all the items I had explained. He told me he forwarded it to the faculty secretary. She (the secretary) twice said that I cannot be a whistleblower, that there is no basis,” the student stated.
He said that the Management was with the students when the blockades started, but that they changed by 180 degrees after the vote for online classes.
He believes he is suffering consequences due to his views and conviction that they do not need “a ridiculous online class system.”
He emphasizes, however, that he has always been in the front ranks and always will be. “They can take away what I live on, but they won’t get me off the streets,” this student said.
Faculty of Civil Engineering spoke out
The statement of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, signed by the dean, is transmitted in its entirety:
“The Faculty of Civil Engineering regrets that your media outlet has been used to present a series of insults and falsehoods against the management and professional services of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, which have no basis in the law and statutes of the Faculty and University, which is easily verifiable by inspecting the provisions of the Law on Higher Education, the Law on Student Organizing, as well as the Law on the Protection of Whistleblowers. Among other things, we emphasize that the Faculty of Civil Engineering has no jurisdiction regarding the mentioned revocation of scholarships and social assistance.
The Faculty of Civil Engineering has been under pressure from various media outlets for a long time for publicly expressing its professional opinions on all current issues and events and for the collective of the Faculty of Civil Engineering being with all its students the entire time,” they said in the statement.
