The entire Balkans was taken aback yesterday by the tragic news from Bosnia and Herzegovina, where father Nenad Mitric and his wife Neda lost their lives in a traffic accident on the Brod–Derventa main road, leaving behind three small children.

Their children, who were in the car at the moment of the accident, survived, were provided with medical assistance, and are out of life-threatening danger.

But the life that awaits them after leaving the hospital will be painful and difficult, as they will continue it without parental warmth and care.

That is why the Church of Saint Petka from Nashville launched a large humanitarian campaign via the GoFundMe platform to collect the necessary funds for the treatment, recovery, and a more secure future for the children of Father Nenad and Priest’s wife Neda.

And an avalanche of goodness and humanity was triggered; in just one day, nearly $200,000 was collected, and that figure is constantly growing.

The largest donor so far has been the Bosnian NBA star Jusuf Nurkic, a player for the Utah Jazz, who paid as much as $5,000 to help the little Mitrics.

JUSUF’S HUMANE HEART: $185,000 already collected, Nurkic’s donation the largest

Jusuf Nurkic showed that he has a big heart that beats for all the people of the world, for all the brothers and sisters of Bosnia and Herzegovina, no matter what faith they are or what their names are, and for that, he deserves a deep bow.

While the little ones, who by a tragic twist of fate became orphans, fight in hospital beds with physical injuries and unimaginable loss, it is our human duty to be their support.

And that is why we once again call upon all people of goodwill to join this initiative of our church from Nashville and show that the children of the tragically deceased parents are not alone in their pain.

Served God and the people, loved football and folklore

Father Nenad, a native of Lijesce, served God and the people in Pojezna near Derventa. He was more than a priest—he was a pillar of the community, a lover of football and folklore, a man whose gentleness opened all doors.

His wife Neda was the backbone of the family and an active participant in church life, a woman whose kindness warmed everyone who met her.

The children are recovering from injuries

One of the three children of priest Nenad Mitric, who died together with his wife last night in a traffic accident near Brod, will be transferred for treatment to the KBC Zagreb, and a notice regarding their health status arrived yesterday:

“All three children are currently stable and out of life-threatening danger and are being treated in our institution. All treatment and care procedures, as well as monitoring of the situation, are being carried out. Due to the complexity of the injuries and the need for further supervision in a specialized pediatric intensive care unit, during the day one child will be moved to KBC Zagreb, Rebro, the pediatric intensive care unit,” stated the General Hospital “Dr. Josip Bencevic” Slavonski Brod.
