State of Emergency Declared, Fatalities Reported
In Prokuplje, a decision has been made to introduce a state of emergency due to the large fires that have been devastating Toplica villages in recent days. More than dozens of houses have burned down. Two fatalities have also been recorded – a married couple died near Brestovac.
The villages of Dubova, Žitni Potok, and Novo Momčilovo are also burning. According to an N1 reporter, a firefighter stated that the residents of these villages are now safe. However, firefighters are still battling fires in multiple locations. In addition, the wind is blowing, which is conducive to the spread of the fires. The Varga family is among those whose house burned down in the fire.
A Plea for Help
“We’re left with one chair. My husband, my son, and I let the cattle go, the pigs too. Help as much as you can,” a woman who lost her home told N1.
She said that the house that burned down was everything she had. “My house burned down. The barn burned down. The neighbor’s hay burned down. The wheat burned down; we had almost just harvested it,” she stated.
Village residents say they now need absolutely everything, including clothes, food, and water.
