Rod Blagojević, a former governor of the US state of Illinois who was a Democratic member of the US Congress in 1999, has stated that the US and NATO bombed Serbia that year because it refused to accept the secession of Kosovo and Metohija.

In a conversation with journalist Tucker Carlson, reflecting on that period, Blagojević said that in 1999, the US and NATO, without the permission of the United Nations, did to Serbia, his father’s homeland, the same thing that Russia is now doing to Ukraine.

“We decided then to bomb a sovereign country,” Blagojević said.

He recalled that the US and NATO decided to bomb Serbia because of Kosovo and Metohija, which is part of it, after Serbia did not accept the Rambouillet Agreement.

“They said that part of the country simply had to be separated, and if you don’t agree to secession, we will bomb you. Blackmail at a high level,” Blagojević stated.

In this context, he also mentioned Hillary Clinton, whose husband was then President of the US, and said that she was a promoter of the Albanian community in New York.

As he said, he cannot say for sure what her motivation was to support the Kosovo issue, which was supported by Albanians in the US, and whether it influenced her “local” politics, and he can only assume that it was money, since she later ran for a position in the Senate.

“I was the only Serb in Congress, and I was a Democrat. My party did it,” Blagojević said, adding that, personally, given that Serbia is the country from which his father came to the US, it was very difficult for him.
