The United States of America (USA), a country with a pronounced two-party system, gained a new, third party tonight.
American billionaire Elon Musk announced tonight that he has formed the American Party.
He added that the party was formed to “return freedom to citizens.”
“At a 2 to 1 ratio, you want a new political party – and you’re going to get it! When it comes to destroying our country with wasteful spending & corruption, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk wrote tonight on his social network X.
Yesterday, on American Independence Day, Musk asked his followers if they “want independence from a two-party (some might say one-party) system” and launched a poll in which more than 1.2 million people voted. 65.8% of them answered in the affirmative.

In the same post yesterday, Musk wrote that “one way to achieve this would be to focus entirely on just 2 or 3 Senate seats and 8 to 10 House districts.”
“Given very narrow legislative majorities, this would be enough to become the deciding vote on contested legislation, thereby ensuring it actually reflects the will of the people,” Musk wrote.
