On Wednesday evening, students involved in the blockade announced that the protest on March 15 in Belgrade will take place in front of the National Assembly of Serbia. While students and citizens on one side are gathering and preparing for a massive demonstration, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić is assembling his supporters in Pioneer Park at an event called “Students Who Want to Learn.”

President Vučić took to his Instagram profile to showcase the “wonderful children in Pioneer Park” who, as he claims, are standing in the rain, which is getting heavier.

“I see these wonderful children here, thousands of them, trying to avoid getting soaked. They have endured so much and gone through so many challenges, yet they haven’t insulted anyone. The whistles you hear come from about thirty people, some kind of thugs, a mob, threatening and insulting them, and yet they don’t even respond,” Vučić wrote.

“Incredible courage and love for the homeland. Apparently, their crime is that they want to study. Those who refuse to study, they are supposedly the best. I would love to see them all united one day because they are the future of Serbia. I feel sorry that these children are here when they should be building a much better Serbia,” he added.

The choice of words from the Serbian president is surprising, given the reaction the term “mob” has provoked among students and citizens—especially following the blockade of RTS and the announcement of a major protest in Belgrade on Saturday under the slogan “15 for 15.”
