The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated today that Jasenovac is the only camp that was never liberated and, emphasizing that even Auschwitz was entered by the Red Army, asked who allowed the Jasenovac camp to operate until May 4.
Vučić, at the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide Crimes of the NDH at the Jasenovac Concentration Camp, in the Donja Gradina Memorial Area, said he is proud that for another year in a row the destiny of the Serbs, which others had intended for them, is being changed.
“Every year we change the destiny they had intended for us. By changing ourselves, we are securing the future of our people, opposing those who intended our disappearance, showing that we will live,” Vučić emphasized.
He pointed out that the partisans and the Red Army had been in Belgrade for more than seven months, while the “Serb-cutter” at Jasenovac continued tirelessly with its bloody work.
“Victory Day, May 9, was approaching, and that satan still directed the bloody orgy, unhindered and unimpeded. Who allowed, as the great Gideon Greif calls it, the Balkan Auschwitz to operate until May 4? How is it possible that partisan brigades did not attack Jasenovac, while the Allies at the same time bombed Niš, Leskovac, and Podborica? Who allowed that miracle of a camp, that miracle of horror, to continue operating and that almost no Serbs survived?” Vučić asked.
He said that because of this, a group of several hundred inmates of the central Ustaše camp Jasenovac gathered all their despair, turned it into courage and determination, and charged towards freedom.
“Soon after them, another 167 inmates from Camp 4, of whom only 11 survived, attempted a breakout towards the Sava River, towards life, but also towards the eternity that follows heroism. The rest perished on the barbed wire, in minefields, or were gunned down by machine guns, and that is more or less the end of the story of Jasenovac, the only camp that was never liberated,” said Vučić.
Noting that the Red Army entered Auschwitz, Vučić stressed that no one ever entered Jasenovac until everything was over, across Europe, across the world, Tanjug reports.
Vučić: We Will Build a Memorial Center in Donja Gradina and in Belgrade
The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, stated today that a magnificent memorial center will rise in Donja Gradina and that Serbia will finance most of it, as well as one in Belgrade.
Vučić said in Donja Gradina, at the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Genocide Crimes of the NDH, that he believed the idea of building memorial centers in Donja Gradina and Belgrade would be met with great enthusiasm by the ministers of the Government of Serbia, but it was not.
“Days went by and there was always some problem. Either the location or who knows what else. I will personally, as I said last time, take responsibility for this, and I promise you that by this time next year, here in this same place, you will see enormous progress in everything we are doing. A magnificent memorial center will rise here. Serbia will pay for most of it, and the same in Belgrade. Just like when you go to Jerusalem, you first visit Yad Vashem, and then you meet with Israeli politicians. It will be the same in Belgrade. First you will visit the place of greatest suffering,” the President emphasized, adding that Serbia will always stand by Republika Srpska and that they can always count on Serbia.
He stated that Serbs hate no one, but love their homeland deeply.
“We love everyone else, but of course, we love our people the most. I want to tell you in Republika Srpska that they attacked Serbia so that there would be no one standing with Republika Srpska, so that there would be no one standing with our people in Kosovo and Metohija. And now, resistance is growing stronger in Serbia. Their revolutions and the theft of Serbia from its citizens and its people are over,” Vučić emphasized.
