“The EP mission held a special meeting with students because they are an indispensable factor in the Serbian political scene at this moment. We had representatives from two universities, specifically those delegated by the plenums, which I assume indicates their ongoing internal dynamics,” said Professor Vladimir Prebilič, a Member of the European Parliament from the Greens group, in an interview with Danas.
He was responding to a question about whether speaking with just a few students is enough to gain insight into the entire movement, given its heterogeneity, including in relation to the EU.
“What we wanted to convey to them is that victory requires the synergy of everyone. Serbia cannot afford to casually reject the hand extended by political fighters against this regime just because they belong to political parties. Borko Stefanović’s bloodied shirt, the arrests of PSG members, and physical attacks on ZLF members must serve as an entry point to that meeting. The student position—that after more than a decade of uncompromising struggle under the excuse ‘if you could, you would have done it by now’—can already be applied to them: your struggle has lasted almost a year and a half, it can go another year, and so on. Where have we arrived?” Prebilič explained, adding:

“That is why it is important for all pro-democracy forces in Serbia—students and the academic community, pro-European political parties, and civil society—to sit together to create a societal consensus on where Serbia should go, both before and after elections, whenever they take place.”
It should be noted that Vladimir Prebilič is a member of the EP mission that visited Serbia to gather information on the state of democracy. He was the only member of the mission to visit Novi Sad, paid tribute to the victims of the canopy collapse at the Railway Station, and subsequently met with representatives of the academic community.
