Dejan Savić, one of the most successful coaches and one of the most recognizable figures in the history of world water polo, is the new coach of Montenegro.

The “Sharks” have gotten their fourth coach – after Petar Porobić, Ranko Perović, and Vladimir Gojković, the Montenegrin national team will be led by one of the most successful coaches in the history of water polo, whose results have left an indelible mark on this sport.

Savić, both as a player and as a coach, has achieved impressive results, which few in professional sports can boast. In addition, his deep understanding of the game, talent for tactics, and ability to adapt to different challenges have made him one of the most respected coaches in the history of the sport. He is ready and highly motivated to provide our “Sharks” with the leadership that will lead them to new successes, the Water Polo Federation emphasized.

Over the decade of leading the Serbian national team, Savić achieved impressive results: two Olympic gold medals (2012 and 2016), three European champion titles (2014, 2016, and 2018), and one world gold medal (2015). In total, with the Serbian national team, he won 17 medals in the period from 2012 to 2022. As a club coach, he led Red Star to the European champion title in 2013, while as a player, he won as many as 13 medals at the biggest world competitions.

“We are honored that Savić, as one of the most respected coaches in the world, has accepted the invitation to take over Montenegro. He is recognized for his passionate approach and ability to motivate players, which is of great importance to us at this moment. In addition, our desire was for the coach to be someone who knows the mentality and specifics of this region and what this sport means to Montenegro, and Dejan is aware of that, and there is no doubt about it,” said Nikola Milić, president of the Montenegrin Water Polo Federation.
