“The New York Times has been allowed to freely lie, slander, and gossip about me for too long, and that stops, now,” Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social, adding that he will appeal to a court in the U.S. state of Florida.
“Today I have the great honor of filing a $15 billion lawsuit for slander and gossip against the New York Times,” the U.S. president added.
In his message, he called the prestigious newspaper “one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in U.S. history.”
Trump accused the New York Times of being “the true spokesperson for the radical left Democratic Party” and that it supported Kamala Harris during the last presidential campaign.
The New York Times has been “engaged for decades against your favorite president (me!), my family, my business,” Trump added.
This is not the first lawsuit by Donald Trump against media outlets he considers hostile.
In July, he sought at least $10 billion for defamation from the Wall Street Journal after the publication of an article that attributed a provocative letter addressed to the financier and sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein to him.
