U.S. President Donald Trump stated today that significant progress has been made regarding Ukraine, emphasizing that intensive discussions are underway with both Moscow and Kyiv and that the talks are going well.
“Russia and Ukraine will agree on a ceasefire, and other countries involved in the process will oversee its implementation,” Trump said, commenting on the negotiations between U.S. and Russian delegations held in Saudi Arabia, as reported by Reuters.
He stated that he would review all conditions of the Black Sea agreement, which the U.S. and Russian delegations agreed upon during yesterday’s meeting in Saudi Arabia, adding that he would “pay attention to Russia’s demands for lifting sanctions.”
Speaking about the “Signal affair,” in which top U.S. administration officials accidentally included a journalist in an encrypted chat room on the Signal platform—used to discuss the upcoming U.S. attack on Yemen’s Houthis—Trump said that no confidential information was shared.
He praised the officials who were in the chat room while criticizing journalist Jeffrey Goldberg, who was inadvertently added to the group.
“Nothing happened in that chat room. We will check how Signal is being used. It was the best technology available at the time,” Trump said.
Signal company president Meredith Whittaker stated earlier today that the Signal app represents the “gold standard in private communications,” highlighting its security advantages over the Meta-owned messaging app WhatsApp.
