Sremska Mitrovica was hit by the news of the death of long-time diver Branimir Pavlović, better known among his fellow citizens as Žutara.
According to unofficial information, Pavlović was engaged yesterday around noon in cleaning the underwater part of a ship on the Sava River. During the works, he dove in, but did not resurface.
An ambulance team arrived at the scene, and after a search lasting several hours, his body was found in the water.
The cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed. Unofficially, the possibility of a heart attack is mentioned, but more details will be known after the completion of the autopsy, which is underway.
“For years, as a conscientious and experienced diver, he participated in numerous actions, searches, and rescues. Many pages of Mitrovica’s history would have remained untold, and numerous secrets of the Sava River hidden forever if it were not for his dedication, courage, and love for the river,” local media write.
