American politicians have expressed concern and questioned the mental state of President Donald Trump after he issued a vulgar threat to Iran.

The American president wrote on his Truth Social platform: “Tuesday in Iran is Power Plant Day and Bridge Day, all in one. Something like this has never been seen before!!! Open that fu*king strait, you crazy bastards, or you will be living in hell – JUST WATCH! Glory to Allah. President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

His post triggered sharp reactions from both sides of the political spectrum, writes The Guardian.

This message comes at a time when the Trump administration is approaching another self-imposed deadline, which expires Tuesday night, for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump has set several deadlines for Tehran to reopen the key maritime corridor, and he has also directed his frustrations at European and NATO allies who have challenged the legality of the US-Israeli war against Iran and refused to intervene, Index recalls.

Mehdi Tabatabaei, from the office of the Iranian president, stated on Sunday that Iran will open the strait only after receiving war reparations.

He added that Trump, by threatening to attack Iranian civilian infrastructure, “resorted to vulgarities and nonsense out of pure desperation and rage.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former loyal ally who became a critic of Trump, stated that all Christians in the Trump administration should “pray to God for forgiveness” and intervene because of the president’s “madness.”

In a long post on the X platform, the former Republican congresswoman wrote: “I know all of you and him, he has gone mad, and you are all accomplices. I am not defending Iran, but let’s be honest about all of this.”

“The strait is closed because the US and Israel started an unprovoked war against Iran, based on the same nuclear lies they have been repeating for decades, that Iran will develop nuclear weapons at any moment,” she continued.

“This is NOT what we promised the American people”

“You know who has nuclear weapons? Israel. They are more than capable of defending themselves without the US having to fight their wars, kill innocent people and children, and pay for it. Trump’s threat of bombing power plants and bridges harms the Iranian people, the very people Trump claimed to be liberating,” Greene wrote.

Democrats: “The president is raving like a deranged lunatic”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said that Trump’s outburst resembles a “deranged lunatic.” He stated on the X network: “Happy Easter, America. While you go to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is raving like a deranged lunatic on social media.”

“He is threatening possible war crimes and alienating allies. That is him, but that is not us. Our country deserves much better,” Schumer added.

Independent Senator Bernie Sanders called the post “dangerous and mentally unbalanced.”

“One month since the start of the war in Iran, this is a statement from the President of the United States on Easter Sunday. This is the raving of a dangerous and mentally unbalanced person. Congress must act NOW. End this war,” he said via X.

Senator Chris Murphy also called Trump’s post completely insane.

“If I were in Trump’s cabinet, I would spend Easter calling constitutional lawyers regarding the 25th Amendment. This is completely, absolutely insane. He has already killed thousands of people. He will kill more,” he wrote.

Invoking the 25th Amendment would mean declaring the president unfit to perform his duties, which would allow the vice president to take over the function, although the prospects for that seem slim.

Democratic Representative Ro Khanna said that Trump, while “swearing and threatening war crimes,” is simultaneously “failing” American soldiers in Iran who are still under attack, even though the president claimed he had destroyed Iranian military capacities.

On the NBC show “Meet the Press,” he stated: “We must end this war immediately. We need an immediate ceasefire. Iran, Israel, and the United States must stop the bombing and reach a solution through negotiations.”

Democratic Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Armed Services Committee, called on Trump to tone down the rhetoric. He also told NBC that Trump’s language is “disgraceful and childish” and that it increases the risk for American soldiers.
